This refreshing Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade is the perfect summer cocktail featuring fresh berries, tart lemonade, and the subtle flavor of mint!

Bourbon lemonade is best enjoyed lounging in a creaky rocking chair on a big ol‘ porch while slowly working through a Faulkner novel on a warm summer evening. If you don’t have a porch or rocking chair, you can still enjoy my cocktail recipe, but I humbly ask that you at least put on a fitted seersucker like a proper gentleman.

Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade

Nowhere will you find bourbon or lemonade perfected better than in the south. However, this classic combination is best enjoyed wherever there are parched lips looking for relief, and it all starts with a quality whiskey.

My favorite way to enjoy whiskey is simply drinking it neat. I love the unobstructed notes of oak, caramel, and vanilla wafting to my nose while my tongue enjoys the smooth and subtle finish of a sip of Maker’s Mark is being washed down. It would then stand to reason that I also reach for a quality bourbon when making a cocktail as well. After all, if I’m adding bourbon for flavor, I’m sure as heck going to use one worth drinking. As with any cocktail, I recommend adjusting the amount of liquor to fit your tastes.

The Maker’s Mark distillery crafts world-class bourbon from limestone-purified water found in the spring-fed lake right on the grounds of the distillery. Every barrel of Maker’s Mark is meticulously aged to taste, rather than time, ensuring not a single drop is bottled before it is ready. The distinctive sweet yet balanced flavor comes from using red winter wheat, reminiscent of the iconic dripping red wax found on each hand-dipped bottle.

How to Make Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade

Fresh blackberries and mint really make this cocktail shine. Blackberries can be hard to locate out of season, so using frozen blackberries is just fine. I do recommend letting them thaw at least partially so the juice releases from them more easily when muddled. If you enjoy sipping Maker’s Mark neat, like I do, simply muddling some blackberries and bourbon together makes a great treat on its own!

To serve your Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade you have two options. You can leave the muddled blackberries and mint in the glass or strain them out for a cleaner appearance. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do this. For me personally, I enjoy leaving them in the glass because that final gulp of bourbon soaked berries is my guilty pleasure!

- Add lemonade and ice, and enjoy.

If using frozen blackberries, it is best to allow them to partially thaw prior to muddling them.

Blackberries and mint can be strained from the drink if desired.
